Franconia

In the summer of 2011 I spent two weeks at the Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota as an Iron Artist at the Community Collaboration/Hot Metal Pour. I camped onsite for the two weeks and shared the facilities of the house with almost thirty people. There were a dozen Iron Artists and three Iron Artist Interns from all over the country, living and working at the park. We endured some pretty incredible storms, one even in the middle of our pour day! It was great experience and I'm looking forward to going back next summer to pick up my work and see how things have changed.

You can learn more about Franconia here.

The piece I made for the park, "Ugandan School Bell (Undetonated)", will be on display through July/August of 2012. Stop by the park to see my work and the work of the excellent group of people I had the privilege of living and working with during my time in Minnesota. View the slideshow below for a selection of images of tent city, the work area, artwork and molds in progress, pour day, some shots of the work the day I finished it, and how it looks today (courtesy of Joe Hillmann).
